Ming dynasty, 16th-17th century 

The drinking vessel is in the form of a yi, a pouring jug for water or wine and appeared first in bronze in the Zhou dynasty. The present yi is of asymmetrical form resting on three cabriole feet. The handle is in the form of a ram's head and a similar handle is set on one of the sides. It is cast in relief below the rim with an archaistic border of a stylised animal and geometric pattern.
The whole is covered with areas of an attractive reddish-brown patina.
