The well-hollowed bottle is of rounded rectangular form. The clear beige stone is carved on one face using the dark brown and beige inclusions, with a landscape showing a camel and a bushy-tailed beast below a monkey and a wasp. The narrow sides are finely carved with lion mask handles suspending ring handles. The slightly waisted neck is carved with a band of leaves. The other main side is plain showing the cloud-like markings in the stone, chalcedony stopper and gilt-metal collar, gilt-silver spoon
7 cm high

The popular subject of a monkey (hou) with a bee or wasp (feng) provides the rebus fenghou ('to be bestowed the rank of marquis '), here used as a generic term for high office in general.

Hugh Moss describes the 'camel and dog' as a recurring theme on snuff bottles, see Hugh Moss, Chinese Snuff Bottles of the Silica or Quartz Group, London, 1971, Nos 110 and 118
