The pillow is of kidney form with tapered sides and slightly concave top, formed from marbleized clay of contrasting reddish beige and dark brown colours. The top and sides are covered with an attractive green glaze, leaving the base unglazed, and showing its natural colours, the marbled pattern reminiscent of streaming rivers.
12.5 cm wide
The use of marbleized clay in ceramics became widespread in the Tang dynasty and continued in the Song dynasty where this form is most common.
