A Cizhou sancai-glazed dish
Jin/Yuan dynasty (12th/13th century)
The interior is incised with a hare in white slip with head turned back amongst yellow grasses below a yellow moon, all on a green ground over white slip. Details of the hare’s ears, eyes and tail are executed in brown.

Compare a very similar dated dish in the National Museum,Tokyo, bearing the inscription on the back: ‘Made in the 6th year (1269) of the Jin-Yuan period, see Sheila Ridell, Dated Chinese Antiquities, 600-1650, London 1979, no. 36
