WFE 68 A cinnabar lacquer box and cover


15th/16th century

The flat top of the shallow circular box is well carved in deep relief with a flowering peony head amongst leafy branches of fruiting pomegranates. The sides of box and cover are carved with a band of meander. The recessed base and interior are lacquered dark brown.
