WFE80 An inkstone in wooden box

The oval inkstone is carved on the upper part with a crane with widespread wings extending towards the back and holding a scroll in its beak. The well is carved with scrolling clouds. The back is carved with a circular coin in relief enclosing the characters 宣和通宝 (xuan he tong bao). The longyan wooden box is in the form of a melon carved with a stem issuing two leaves and tendrils 
Length of box 18.8 cm 

Provenance: An old Dutch collection acquired in the 1930s in Indonesia
