WFE 69 A rare gilt-bronze figure of a hare


16th century or earlier

The animal is finely cast standing in an alert position with head turned to the right. The head and back are splashed with areas of gilding. Details of eyes, whiskers paws and short tail are finely executed.
The patina is of dark reddish-brown colour with some green encrustation.
Height 6 cm; length 7.5 cm

Formerly in the collection of Jan Habbema acquired in Indonesia in the 1930s.
