WF 121 A fine pale celadon openwork plaque

十五至十六世紀 玉鏤雕水鳥紋嵌飾


15th-16th century

The plaque is intricately carved in openwork, the slightly domed surface as a crested waterbird with outstretched wings, an elongated curling neck and long curved beak, amidst a dense background of entwined scrolling stems and leafy foliage issuing a lotus bloom and bud, all enclosed by twenty beads forming the oval frame. The underside is polished smooth.
The stone is of a pale celadon colour with slight russet inclusions.

此玉牌通體以細密透雕,微拱的表面塑作一隻振翼水鳥,羽冠高聳,長頸蜷曲延伸,喙部修長弧折。荷花、花苞、荷葉與纏枝葉曼構成繁複背景。邊緣以二十顆圓珠環繞成橢圓形框,背面則琢磨平滑。玉質呈淡青色,間見淺赭色沁斑。
